I do not know if any of this is news to anyone, however....I spoke with Anderson over at Modulus today inquiring about an old pickup, discovered a few things
Apparently their Sweetspot Basses (renamed serval times, now called Funk Unlimited, had both Lane Poor and Dimarzio pickups. The Lane Poors seem to be esteemed as more of a "full range" pickup, agressive and allowing a lot of mids of the bass to speak. What i was not aware of, according to AP, was that the subsequent Seymour Duncans were designed after they could no longer get the Lane Poor pickups. He says they litterally chopped up the Lane Poors and reverse engineered them. So, for what it is worth, he says that those seeking the "holy grail" of Lane Poor-dom are well served to use their Seymour Duncans, which apparently are available from Modulus for retrofitting.
Another item is that there are two new models coming out. They will retain the Funk, the Quantum and the Vertex. They are adding a P bass (Bartolini pickup standard) to the lineup.
More interesting to me is the re-introduction of the TBX neck thru model
It seems Phil Lesh wanted a TBX 34" scale. Apparently both he and Mike Gordon have 34" TBX models on order, although the new TBX is going to be 35" scale.
The P bass is listing at $3249 and the TBX 5 string a cool $8400. However that does include harshell case.
