Peacey cirrus question.

Recently I have been looking at these basses (4 string specifically) and I've been seeing different kinds of models, what model do you guys think is the best? This may be a dumb question, but I don't know a lot about peavey basses, and I feel like there is a million different models of this bass. Also, I'm looking for the one that has great neck playability (if that helps narrow down the search at all.)
Thanks!

There really aren't that many models of the Cirrus. There are three - Made in USA neck through, Made in USA bolt-on, and the BXP models. The pecking order exactly the same as far as desirability is concerned. The USA neck- through models being the most desired and the BXP models being the least.

The BXP models themselves have a desirability based on where they were made. The best ot them are made in Indonesia, followed by Korea, China and Vietnam. In that order. If I were to consider an Asian-made Cirrus, I would only buy the Indonesian made models.

I just purchased a USA bolt-on 5'er and it's a very comfortable bass to play. I would suggest playing one on your rig or a similar one to see if the tone suits you. It may be the strings on mine, but the overall tone of the bass seems very...tame and muffled. If my VT bass deluxe can't get it to spit out some decent grind, something's gotta be wrong lol.

The neck-through USA Cirrus is a 35" scale, which may or may not affect your perception of "neck playability". I find it reasonably playable, but the deal-cincher for me is that it has the best B-string of any bass I've ever played. Never played an import version (which I think is 34" scale), but you can probably find a USA version used for not much more than an import version new.

If you're using "best" as your criteria, you need to play more basses. The Cirrus and Millennium are probably the best mass produced basses I can think of. They've always been my go-to basses and about the only reason I went with my hand made basses was to get options outside of the Peavey range. That being said, they're seldom kept by most people on TB.

I've never played a bolt-on Cirrus, but I have two neck-through 4s-fretted and fretless. They play beautifully, and sound great. The fretted one has round-wound strings, and the fretless flat wounds- they sound entirely different from each other. As stated previously, they are 35" scale- that is an issues for some of my friends who have tried them. But I do love the neck-through.

What do you guys think neck thru or bolt on?

IMO, neck thru all the way.
I concur that they´re probably the best mass produced basses out there and used ones have an unbeatable price.

You won´t find any other American made bass with NT construction, quality electronics, solid hardware and different wood combos. BTW, their neck profile is one of the slimmest I´ve played.

A Groove is a Terrible Thing to Waste!

I have a USA neck through Cirrus 5 and it is the best sounding and playing bass I have ever had my hands on. Rumor has it that they were designed to compete with the Ken Smith basses, and they do it very well IMHO. The prices for pe-owned basses is very very good for the quality.

What kind of fretboard does it have?
