Peavey Foundation?

well, since ive joined the new band ive occasionally be playing my guitarists bass (well, it was actually his dads thats been given to him, along with an ibanez les paul ) and ive never seen one before, its a metallic red peavey foundation with "super ferrite" pickups? 4 string maple board....anyone know anything about these?

Yup....they could be the most underrated bass in the history of Peavey. Good solid workhorse of a bass, and made in the USA. Can't go wrong with a Foundation.

Peavey Foundations with the Super Ferrite pickups are DA BOMB. Unbelievable value for a handmade American bass. I own and use 3 of 'em.

They're great. I've read that that specific bass, the Foundation with Super Ferrite pickups is a staple with a lot of the Nashville studio heavyweights. The pickups are true single coil like a Jazz bass and will hum when soloed.

I have a Foundation with Super Ferrites and it is the best sounding passive Jazz I have ever heard, bar none. My only regret is that twenty years ago, I had a great sounding fretless Foundation and I let it go. If I had kept it, I wouldn't be looking for a fretless now.

"Unsing classic" is right! The Foundations I've played have all sounded very good. The only problem I've seen is that the necks are very thin and a couple were warped.

Aldur body.

1996 MSRP was $479.99.
1995 MSRP was $439.99.
Late 80's they were MSRP'd at $399.99.

The S models were active pickups. I've always preferred the passive earlier models. Although I did like the PJ design of the later ones.

The painted ones might have been poplar. I own a mahogany bodied one and a maple bodied one. Boy is the maple bright.

As we speak there is a red one on evilbay with a buy it now price of $100. If I didn't dump ten times that amount today on my car, I'd own 5 Peavey foundations. I lust for another one, this time with a fretted rosewood fingerboard.

I have a black w/ maple FB Foundation circa 1995ish that has a poplar body and it is still one of my fave sounding basses. I will never get rid of that thing. Punchy, brought tone, can get a good J-Bass sound as well as some excellent slap tones. Amazing value, don't sleep on this bass.

The only Peavey Foundation I played on was a dream ... Smooth jazz bass tone, easy playing, nice rusty look. This babe was from '91.

Too bad I realized it too late.

This one sold on Ebay was an exact replica of the one I am speaking about, and seeing it went for only $50 is mad.

Best jazz bass I ever played on (and I used to put my hands on some self called "high end" fenders ...).

My natural finish Foundation was ash with a rosewood neck...much more dense than my Dyna which is basswood.
Any Foundation is a good workingman's bass. Judged by playability and tone, they should sell for far more than they do.
