Quad's Scheff is now Chef's Scheff;)
Make sense? OK then...

Never been interested in the lip stick pup thing, but have been interested in the Jazz thing, and the Fralin thing...so when this came up for sale I smoked my credit line.

This particular Scheff is unique for the Fralin single coil J pups, and the maple board, the Scheff in general is a likewise unique spin on the standard J theme thu it's very non-standard pup placement. The neck pup is pushed more towards the neck, the bridge pup more towards the bridge. So, in essence, you an get an "enhancement" of both the 60's and 70's J pup placement ideologies.

The Fralins are nice work, and pretty dynamic: lay off the strings and they're warm and vintage-ee, dig in and they bark and grind nicely-with this caveat: the oddball pickup spacing combined with the blend knob and wide ranging Lakland 3 band eq make it a little bit challenging to find "your standard J tones." They're in there-it's just taking my moronically slow brain a while to figger where they are.

Though I didn't think of trying this til the last dang song of the show, the Fralins really do well with the passive position. I don't find that to be the case with the other active Lakkies I have (5501, 5502, YMMV, etc). I'm gonna need to mess with that more.

The Scheff neck profile literally melts in your mouth/hands; very, very nice. It just goes away...great width, great depth, and I'm a big fan of Laklands satin finish. The body sure feels to be just like 55/01/02 but I've not had them side by side yet. Typicaly Lakland-nice contours and fabulous upper register access.

Dat's all fer now, 'ceptin' for the pics-courtesy of Quad for now.

I believe it left the factory with the Fralins.
I been pushing my new Schro 410L open with it.
Scheff>DB680>PLX2402>410L= very nice.

It'll be at the Blue Fugue with the Goldbugs sat night.

Last home gig before I leave for China to play the Tsingdao Beer Festival.

No sir...I tried and tried to secure a DB thru Eastman and Shen, but it just ain't gonna happen.
I'm taking a completely beat early 80's Fender Japan "jaco replica" fretless Jazz with old flats on it...it can "kinda sound" like a DB...kinda.

Very cool mini review! Soooo is Chef's Scheff headed to China?
