Squire Affinity Jazz Bass 5 String.

I bought one for $227 & put a Hipshot bridge on it & some flatwounds. I like the way the stock pups sound, unlike my MIM Fender Jazz 5. I put Barts on that one. The Squier is perfect for touring because it sounds & plays great & I can leave it in the van without worrying about it like my $5000+ bass. It's all white with a off white pickguard. Simple, but it looks really cool in photos.

I do know that you need to measure the size of the pickups because they are not standard Fender size. What fits in a Fender Jazz 5 won't fit in the Affinity. I thought about modding mine but the more I played it the more I liked the way it sounded. Also I didn't want to put too much money into it.

I hate to be "that guy" that states otherwise, but in a fit of experimentation a couple of months ago, I've directly swapped the pickups between my 2008 American Standard Jazz Bass & the Affinity & also pickups from a Fender Jazz 24 5-string with no fit issues whatsoever. The pickguards (5-string) are a direct fit as well between both MIM & MIA with the Affinity 5-string. :hiding:

I just got that discontinued model MIM Standard Jazz V, and like it so much I was thinking of using it exclusively, in which case I would want a less-expensive back-up that feels the same.

I’m thinking maybe this should be the one; just deciding between the passive and active version.

I’m watching for any reviews/opinions on this thread.

Stingray, I got some Barts that fit a Fender Jazz 5 & my tech tried to install them on the Affinity. He said routing would be required. Then, when he called Bartolini for replacement pups for my MIM Fender Jazz 5 they sent a set that didn't fit. They finally sent the correct size, but it tells me that there is more than one size. My Affinity was made in Indonesia , so maybe there's a difference coinciding with the country of origin.

the Affinity Jazz V that I had, had the same size pickups routes as an MIA Jazz as well. As a matter of fact, Stingray 69had sent me pickups out of his, and they fit into mine. The affinity Jazz basses are made in China.
The Deluze Active Jazz V basses (like the one Dabbler posted) is crafted in Indonesia. The pickups in THAT bass are NOT standard size. I did some measuring and research, and it turns out that those pickups are the same width as 4-string Neck pickups, and yet the mounting ear holes are the same as 4-string bridge pickups. So those are real "red-headed step-child" pickups and you'd definately have to do some routing to make anything fit....but only a little. I actually routed my mass body to fit standard MIA V pickups as well. (i had both basses....is case any of my ramblings are confusing)
