The (unfortunate) second installment in the ever growing Dr.Bass saga.

Original thread here: Page 1
Last page of original thread: Page 52

Also, if you have a Dr.Bass cab on order and haven't added yourself to the list of waiting customers, please post up here: (Doctor Bass) Dr. Bass head count for back orders

Keep the personal jabs towards fellow members and/or threats towards Marc out of it guys. BTW, that isn't a request.

Yeah, I would like to see those pics as well.

As to the search, I have tried to search back as far, and as well, as I could to edit all Dr.Bass threads to make them easier to search for. If anyone knows of one I haven't edited please let me know!

BTW, SMASH, it's good to see you posting!

Actually, there were numerous such threads long before this one. Problem is that the brand name can't be effectively searched for on TB due to the limiitations of the search function.

Speaking of searching, on Dec 1 Armbruster wrote of his visit "I'll have some photos soon (probably tomorrow). Stay tuned guys."

I can't find the pics in either thread and am curious to see them.

NJ Fclef, I respect your decision not to play a brand for whatever reason. I'm the same way, with a short list of brands that I'd rather quit music than play. Speaking of which, I notice you're saying you'll switch to Accugroove. Given you seem to be attracted to controversial speaker brands, if you have some time do some reading on "Accuswitch" before you switch.

Now for my Dr. Bass story. I've wanted very much to order a cab several times, but going back many years these types of threads were always around.

Most of you have probably seen his referral discount on the website. Back when, he had a very rudimentary site. Terrible really. A musician friend of mine was learning web design at the time and needed some projects to show off, and so I offered Dr. Bass a free, pro, website in exhange for the referral discount. My friend would get something for his resume, and I'd get a small push towards finally ordering. It was supposed to happen, but the bottom line is that he never even got around to accepting a free professional website. If that's not disorganized ...

That was years ago. 3 or 4 years, at least. I notice that he's finally got an improved site, though it's still pretty basic. Kudos for that. I also respect he's not disappeared completely. There's a part of me that believes he means well but he's just not functional. It'd be great to see a happy ending to all this, but having said that don't think me naive - the only thing that appalls me more than what he's doing is the gullibility of so many people here. I'd have called the cops a very long time ago. There are many ways to get your $400 worth, other than receiving a cab you can't be happy to even look at.

Good luck to you Dr. Bass, whatever your problems truly are. Good luck to you all that are waiting, though fortune doesn't favour the meek.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be sure to check that thread. Of the higher end boxes, what's the concensus of 'good citizens' vs performance?

I am glad you are happy with your cab, but you did not answer my question. What is it that makes it better than any other cab on the market (Eden, Agular, Ampeg, Orange or any number of great cabs) that makes it worth waiting for?

I'm going to scratch my head for a second here... okay, I'm done.

As I said, Dr. Bass was reasonably priced, and custom builds were available. I wanted a lightweight, unloaded box for a 15" driver I had, with a spray-on coating. The Dr. had exactly what I was looking for, and it was exactly what I got. The four-month wait wasn't part of the deal. The reason this thread exists is for customers to vent, and to warn potential customers about what they're facing.

re-sub'd. again, sorry for all those waiting... it's a terrible feeling, and my heart goes out to you all.

to contribute a tad to the minor derail... LDS are a very good alternative. my order experience wasn't perfect (i can blame fedex for most of it, but shipping damage snafus and custom-built boxes that weigh 120 lbs are tricky issues to resolve), but at the end of the day they'll make sure it all gets made right. and i still play my LDS 610 every day, so it all had a happy ending.

Though it admittedly is not a complete list, I believe Andy Lewis (Acme), Jim Bergantino, Nick Epifani and Don Oatman (Low Down Sound) are all genereally considered to be straight shooters who provide quality products.

For those, including nj fclef, considering alternatives, your fellow TB-ers started a thread here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=581278 providing praise for GOOD customer service. It covers guitars, amps, and cabs, and is just a smattering, but it's a help.

We now resume your regularly scheduled broadcast....

I'll have some photos soon (probably tomorrow).

I've looked at DR. B cabs many times in the past and considered placing an order but now, Even after this all get straightened out, based on what's happened, I'd only pay COD.

Also, If the cabs are built and being sprayed, why do TB'rs have to have a DRB customer update everyone on the status and promise to take photos?

I hope it all ends well. However, with the plethora of other options, I would never even dream of considering an order, even for a picosecond, regardless of the root cause(s) and how the current saga unfolds.
