how do i get crazy ear splitting feeback? (indie listeners maybe??)

i don't know if alot of bands do this but often times when i see an indie band towards the end of a really heavey song the guitarist will throw his guitar with all the strings ringing open or lean it up against the amp and he will be on the floor rolling around tweaking 20 different pedals and you will hear this most insane crazy yet awesome yet scary feedback. i was hoping someone on here knows what i am talking about and can tell me what pedals are best for this? i know it can't just be regular old distortion feedback, it has something else to it but i don't know what? anyone who doesn't think im nuts for asking, could you help me out here?

I get feedback 3 ways w/ my POD:

1) Create a really hi-gain patch. I'm talkin' muff w/ everything maxed->a muff-like amp. Then I stick my bass in front of whatever speakers the sound is going to. Traditional feedback.

2) Put a wah in front of the above, and replace the 1st muff with a comp. Comp at 100%, output gain 100%. With the wah back I get a nice (IMO) fuzz sound. Wah forward = ear-splitting feedback :D

3) Delay w/ a short time, but maxed feedback. Turn that baby on and you've got incredible volume in no time :D

Interestingly enough, if I set the tweek variable to the delay time I can create an engine reving sound by increasing/decreasing the time. I should record clips...

This man knows what he's talking about.

Another thing everyone seemed to be overlooking is the position of the bass, where it is in relation to the amp, what kind of pickups are you using, all that stuff. It can make a difference.

Only cus I'm into this kinda thing :D

I find that the wah one works best for a controlable feedback thing. It's even a little more controlably acurate than setting the delay feedback as the tweekable value on the POD (which you can't easily do with a single pedal setup).

Oh ya, and the wah fb sounds killa drenched in verb!

Danelectro fab delay with an extremely low battery
you don't even need an instrument, just this thing and an amp. mess with the knobs to get nice pitch shifting sounds and all kinds of fun noises. i once got mine to sound like a crowd stomping

Many of the above will do it - through various methods reinforcing the frequencies that the pickup(s) are most active in. Sometimes a chorus, phaser or flanger can contribute as combs make peaks and valleys. A boosted band on a graphic or parametric EQ can do it... Basically a wah is like a parametric EQ, and when you sweep that boosted peak across the signal it'll show you where the combination of the speaker output and the most feedback-prone pickup output is (if gain is sufficient) - you may even get some pickup microphonics going ; }

try to get your hands on DOD FX33 Buzz Box.
It will give you the best feedback ever! It is also very easy to enter power noise-like regions with this device.

Nice topic btw!

Or a MXR Blue box with a dist/fuzz, The Buzzbox is after all based on the Rat and a Bluebox combo that Buzz used on eggnog. I A/B'ed a Buzzbox against a Rat and a Bluebox once and the sound is very close but I found the real Blue box more fun to play around with then the Buzzbox............ damn............. now I have Bluebox gas:hiding:

for me, big muff, flanger, and 2 delays, one set to short delay time with max feeedback, and the other( analog) set to longest delay time with max feedback. ive blown out 3 lighbulbs in our practice space because of this. but damn is it fun.

Aaron, quick, tell me everything about the Blue Box and provide clips with an electric bass through it!
I tried one a few years ago, from what I remember it sounded something between a envelope filter [dod] and the sound effects to the old centipede arcade game, it totally did the falling flea sound, I have no clips [I would if I could], you’ll have to hunt one down or harass the few people on here that have one for clips [I remember seeing at least one in the post your pedal board I or II thread

For a different flavor, try an Electrix Filter Factory (or similar) on 4-pole mono, run in a Barge VFB-2 blend (not feedback) loop.

You can select the frequency that you want to ring, as well as the intensity (from background drone/wash to full blown RRRRIIIIIINNNGGG!).

I'm fond of this with a DOD 250 in front of the FF, with a flanger and Sans Amp Classic downstream.

Distortion before a Wah with a delay will make some pretty intense noises. I run one before and after my wah and that balances out the sound so it sounds normal in the toe up posistion, and crazy feedbacking awesomeness in the toe down. Combined with delay it can make some amazing sounds. (also throwing that sound in a feedback loop leads to totally awesome soundscapes between/after songs).
