Double Bass Value of this Salvadore de Durro Bass?

Hello,

Since it's too hard to choose between thompson and upton laminated bass withough playing them (live in canada), i looked for another option and here is what I found (and almost fell in love with):

it s about 30 years old
it has a solid spruce top and the rest is laminated, an ebony fingerboard.

can someone tell me the value of such kind of bass? should I jump on this deal?

what about those... seems to be fine tuner ?

I'm not sure about the weight, but it looks like a Thomastik tailpiece I put on on the carved Eberle I bought from Bassesonline - and it significantly improved the bass's arco sound. Also put one on a Chinese bass that I sold recently, that had the same effect of really warming up the sound.

On the other hand, on my carved solo bass I have a marvin tailpice, which really makes that bass sing.

Long and short, I think the OP can live with the tailpiece if the bass is otherwise ok.

That looks to be a really nice German bass with a really stupid heavy (460 gram!) tailpiece on it.

How much are they asking? Can you get your DB teacher to have a look at it with you?

yes, and strange thing is that it comes with many interesting options but no ajustable brige... wich is usually one of the basic and practical option.

I would like to have my teacher with me but it really a too long drive to have him there,

thank you for all the infos, I think I ll go take a look whenever I can get out of town, and I'll give you some news. Can't wait to hear it and this tailpiece still puzzle me, can t wait to see how it warms up the sound...

I couldn't find any product reviews. But I think there's some theory that on some basses more mass in the tailpiece helps the arco tone (not nec. the pizz). My hunch is that the carved Eberle and your possible bass would have a lot in common.

Other than what I felt and heard on those specific basses, I haven't got any other insight.
