Difference Between Jazz and Precision Bass sound

This is so untrue. People who propagte this myth have either never really spent time with both basses, or haven't tried (m)any mods.

Even without mods though, and even without flats, or any trickery, it is not difficult to get a deeper punch out of a stock J than is capable with a stock P.

The bass hads knobs, you've got two hands - use them.

To each his own. I've had three P basses (Lull, Fender, and Lakland) and several J Basses (Sadowsky, Modulus, etc, etc). Even though I could get a bigger bang out of the J-basses by cranking everything using active electronics, none of the J's could match the P for purity of low end usable punch/thump [and maybe tone] via passive electronics.

The J's would come close, but unfortunately, I wasn't playing horseshoes.
