This isn't making much sense...but I'm thinking that you're asking an asthetics question, right? Do we prefer the look of a soapbar, P, P/Js, or Other (Which is where MM and J/MM wou'd fall...)
Even though I have a MIM fretlass Jazz bass, lately I've been thinking of getting a P-bass. They both sound great, but, I'm really starting to want the feel and tone of a Precision again. I had a horrible P-bass in 1976; I think it's time to get a '62 vintage one! OH YEAH!
I have a MIA Fender "Hot Rod" P-Bass which I think combines the best of both worlds. It's a P-Bass body with a P+J P/U. I have really been impressed with the sounds you can get from it.
