Tone vs. Pickupsettings on L-2000

Best example it to set them as close as possible to the strings without the strings hitting the poles like Alan and I do. Then drop them all the way down for a less aggressive response.

Tilt the bridge pickup to get the front or rear poles higher to really change it's character. Shhhh...that is a big tone secret.

Tis all part of finding your individual sound in the things.

The pickups on my ASAT came adjusted as far down as possible be the previous owner and I haven't messed with them at all. What should I expect by raising one or the other or both?

If you raise them you will get a hotter output and more response to your right hand technique.

Tilting the bridge pickup one way or the other gets a more edgy cutting sound or a bit smoother when using it alone or both pickups. I have mine set higher and tilted forward so the rear coil is closest to the strings.

Grab a screwdriver and try it. The pickups are on springs and easy enough to reset if you don't like the result.

I wasn't thrilled with my L2KE until I raised and set the pickups similar to my '93.

Just another way the G&L is infinitely tweakable.

Now I haven't tried this but you could drop the neck pickup some and then use the poles to raise the neckside poles for the E and A and the bridge side for the D and G. Why more a P type sound perhaps? I haven't tried it.
Conversely use the bridge side for E and A and neck side for D and G like a reverse P.
