Opinions on Hanging your basses or keeping them in cases

Hi,

I'd like your guys input.

I have quite a few bass and I was curious what you thought about leaving them hang on the wall (from a string swing ect.) or would it be better for them to stay in their cases?

I've always kept them in cases but I would like to have them out on hangers. Great to look at and just easier to grab and play (must be getting lazy).

I am curious if they are more apt to be affected by climate changes, as our seasonal changes are unreal here in the north. Also would there be to much stress on headstock/neck from hanging long periods of time.

now you have me worried about the headstock stress, i have mine hanging on the wall. and I know a few guys that use hercules stands , and the basses hang from them. The only time their basses are in cases is on the way to and from gigs

I have two hangers on my wall, and nine basses, some of which are pictured here:

As a result, nothing hanging on the wall gathers dust. There's always a rotation of basses in those spots. The others stay in their cases.

And no, hanging your basses from the wall does not damage them. There may be some issues with setup if your house experiences wide temperature variations or if you hang them too near a vent or heat source like they sometimes do at a GC. A case can insulate against temperature/humidity changes over the short term (like going out to a gig), but it won't make much difference (other than dust) if you're talking more than a day or two. After a while, the temp/humidity in the case will be the same as in the room.
