I've got a Smith fix lately, and all the old Smith porn on TB have pics that no longer work on the new TB format. So please post everything from the most pieced neck-thrus to the simple two piece BSR bodies I GAS for the most.

Here's my 1999 BSR-J4. I really like it. The wood combo is avidoire and walnut with a bubinga board. It's a really live sounding bass and the preamp is super flexible and useful. Definitely the best neck I've had the pleasure of, too. I think the Smith 4 necks are the shiznitz!

However, Daryl Jones has this one (from lowdbass) which I would like to own...however, I prefer the new preamp to the old BT preamp.

I've not had the oportunity to play more than 1 or 2 Smith's but I'm interested in them because of their 34" scale lengths. Do you guys find the back pickup to be usable? It seems awefully close to the bridge to me.

Loverly To me the darker woods always look better. Have you tried out the DIP switches yet?

You obviously haven't looked at the "typical" Smith price tag have you?


Awesome instruments but you definitely pay top $$$ for them.

I had this BSR-EG for a few years and it was a great bass all around, but I found a '62 Jazz that totally blew me away so it had to go. Built like a Rolls Royce, impeccable craftsmanship.
