Anybody using spiros with a darker top string? I went thru this whole thing with a different bass years ago, but I forget is it a flexocore (purple winding) or what? that best matches the spiro but has enough dampening to get rid of the nasal twang? I have an anima on there right now but I'm just wondering what people do when they bow or otherwise want to keep a steel wrap?
Thanks,
p

Hey flatback,

I have been using the Spiros con other G string for years.
I have really like using the the Eudoxa G string with the Sipro weichs for a while. The Eudoxa is a silver wrapped on gut string. The diameter is not that thick and the tension mixes really nice I think. I would give it a try to see what you think. Also the Eudoxa bows very well which is a plus. :bassist:

original Flexocor G is a good choice, also Superflexible G which is cheaper i guess. Dominant might work for you too, i've been trying that myself lately, but my Underwood seems to bring out strange aspects of the Dom. string... good luck

Hey Pirot,
I have not had any problems thus far with the Eudoxa string. I love the feel and tension especially in relation to the weich strings. However, they are a delicate string and I could see how un-wrapping problems could occur. I still recomend it as a good choice or the Olive as well as a choice for a darker G string. I havent liked any of the flexecores I have tried.

I have used an Innovation solid core G with Weichs with good results. The Innovation tension works well with the Weichs, I have never had one unravel and they last a good long time.
I like the sound of the Pirastro Pizzicato gut G better but they are much more expensive and don't bow well. They have also had unravelling problems but the one I have now has been on for more than a year without any problems and still sounds good.
