Warwick Corvette 5 $$ settings

I play a lot of different styles of music. Funk, reggae, bluegrass, punk, ska and I recently jumped into a Warwick Corvette $$. She's a beaut and I love her to bits. Have played a couple of shows with her, and the last show I played was more reggae and dub type of music. I felt like she was a little too "clicky" and hot. Since we were only playing a half hour set, I kind of dealt with it, turning the volume and bass and treble knobs down. I felt like those monster MEC Humbuckers were picking up a lot of the sound of my fingers hitting the strings, even when I laid way off paying careful attention to use soft strikes. Normally, this doesn't bother me, but for the dub, I didn't really want that sound. So I'll ask my fellow TB'rs. Post your settings and tell me how you use them. I'm also curious to see how other people incorporate these different tones into their playing. Like when do you play passive, or pull the blend back or forward, or how about the toggles on the two pickups. Anything will help me for dialing her in. :help:

It doesn't seem like there are a lot of TBer's sporting this bass yet... mine isn't coming until February!

Yeah. Mine (obviously) is still less than a month old. Backstage at the gig I mentioned, one of the guys in another band was endorsed by Warwick [insert Napoleon Dynamite - "lucky" here]. He's all yeah, even with the p/ups turned down you can get really warm deep sounds. But it was a gig with a lot going on backstage and I never hooked up with him again to finish the conversation. :scowl: So never got a chance to pick his brain.

As I mentioned, I don't have mine yet. But I would imagine that soloing the neck pickup in parallel (I think that's the normal P-Bass wiring), and then having it in active mode with the bass turned up and the treble turned down will at least get you on the right path.

You might have heard of a bassist called Stuart Zender - played on the first three Jamiroquai albums. Search for his website, then look on his forum. He is famous for playing Warwicks, so loads of the people on his forum own Warwicks. Ask around there, and see if any of them can help you.

Yeah. I love Stuart Zender one of the reasons why I first started checking out Warwicks. I look that up. Thanks.

Lazz - As far as slapping goes. I've got that one down. Treble up. Blend to back p/u. I play that with both p/u toggles in the down position, how about you?

Yes mate, sounds about right. I also lowered the neck pup and raised the back pup to give slightly crisper sound when the blend is in the middle position.........

Thanks guys. I sat down and played with her for about 5 hours yesterday. Man I've got a sweet bass. :D

Here's what I found.

Slap sound:
Blend to bridge p/u
toggles in down positions
hand over neck p/up
treble a little higher relative to bass

Warm round sound (i.e. dub, reggae, latin jazz etc.)
blend to neck p/up
toggles front in middle back in up position
hand over bridge p/up
bass a little higher than treble.

good growly punk and rock sound
blend to between p/u's
toggles in down position
fingers plucking over neck p/up

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I understand techniques and stuff, just wanted to get some settings down on this sweet a$$ guitar. Later. Digging the $$ :hyper:

Any other settings that I missed (I'm sure there are tons) please share. Enjoy my fellow Warwick bretheren.

I would do all of that, except select the pickup in Series mode to get more beef. Parallel is thinner sounding than series, IME.

Hi guys, I'm seriously considering buying a Corvette $$ NT in the next few months but cannot find any details on the controls.

Obviously I understand the 3 way switches (I installed this set up on my own bass a few years ago) but am not sure what the 4 dials do. Are they the same as the FNA Jazzman?

The controls are 1)volume with a push-pull to put the bass in active/passive mode, 2) pan between the two pickups, 3) treble boost/cut, 4) bass boost/cut. :) That should be the same as the Jazzman, though I'm not sure if a Jazzman has the active/passive option.

Thanks for these settings! I own a Corvette 5 string bass guitar with MEC onboard preamps as well. I'm curious to know do I need a bass pre-amp/Di like SansAmp before it goes to the mixer? Or would the preamp on my guitar enough to control the tone I want to go to a passive DI and then to a mixer?
