New made in China Ampeg

I ordered a new Ampeg BA115T combo from Same Day Music and it just arrived today. I was excited to try it out so I unpacked it and plugged my bass in and guess what?
My brand spankin' new made in China Ampeg amp doesn't work!

First, I was pissed because I was expecting an American made amp. They did not give me any clue that it was going to be made in China. I would not have bought the amp. And, of course, it comes in DOA!!!
Now, I have to take my brand new amp to an authorized Ampeg repair center and have them repair it. Boy, I wish I had gotten something else.

I would return it and buy another brand. Most of the SLM "Authorized Service Centers" (in So. Cal )have had their agreements cancelled and you now have to ship it back to LOUD for repair. If you run into a problem during the warranty period this is a big headache.:rollno:

I don't think this is going to be a good thing for the Ampeg brand. It's very dissapointing.:(

That's why you have to do your homework when making any purchase. Unfortunately it is getting harder and harder to find "made in USA" products in any product group. If you are ever in doubt about where a product is made, contact the manufacturer.

And, of course, it comes in DOA!!!

You don't have to have it repaired. Send it back for a refund and then get you something else. I suggest some British made Trace Elliot. :smug:

My Marshall has a Union Jack on the back and I'm proud of it, but I thought since Trace Elliot came back that there was some overseas production going on. I'm open to correction.

Shopping at Walmart saves every American family $40.00 a week. It costs us billions as we are now not economically safe. This is our own fault not the Chinese. Every decade gets to blame some other group. It was the Jewish bankers taking the American farms in the 80s. It's Mexicans taking the auto jobs. It was Blacks taking the Irish jobs when it was actually the reverse.(Gangs of NY). It is our own fault. The people we should be angry with are our elected officials and the heads of industry who don't shop for this cheap stuff at Walmart. They have been screwing the American citizen for years and yet we keep believing the lies and hateing others. We want to pay $50 for a DVD player when if we paid $150 our blue collar neighbor would have a job. We have to have it now instead of saving three months and buying that DVD player later. We then buy one for each TV.
We think that as long as we are okay it doesn't matter who else lives a bad life. We should care that everyone eats and has access to these consumer items too.
I appreciate buying American. I also appreciate buying quality regardless of county of origin. Japanese autos do well in America because they give Americans quality and good service. When American auto companies do this as well they will get back their market share.
As far as amps go, save your money and buy used pro gear then buy from small American companies that give great service with their well designed and manufactured product. Yes some of these can break or get sick. That's why they have such great customer service so it's not a worry.

Am I the only one that read the post that garned the above reply as a very clear example of sarcasm?

Clearly it isn't broken because it is Chinese. All of Sony's LCD TV's are made in Korea, but you don't hear many people complaining about them. Xbox 360's are made in China, and mine works fine. I am pretty sure PS-3's are made in China too. My point is, just like any country, there are quality products made in China, and crappy ones.

As far as the original post goes, I could point you to several posts about Eden gear made in the states, that arrived brand new and broken. I am sure you could find similar threads about any other gear made in the states, so I don't mean that to pick on Eden.

If you like the features of that combo get another one and be happy when you open the box and it works fine. If you want something different in the same price, return it and get that. But before you go looking just based on the country the amp is made in, I am pretty sure you will find it impossible to buy a combo in $350 price range that is not made in either: China, Korea, or Taiwan.

Perhaps the poster could clarify the comment... I agree the comment was sarcastic. The unit is obviously not broken because of it's country of origin, but those words were put in the thread starters mouth. Frankly, an ugly motive was assigned here, and I don't believe it was warranted.

That's exactly why they didn't tell you that. They are paying cents per hour for labor over there instead of dollars per hour here. Did Ampeg pass all those great savings on to you? I doubt it. Without getting all political about it, Ampeg sold out to China, the quality will drop in both the product and the customer service and anything else that goes with it, time will prove this correct. Send it back and get something else and yes you have to do research before buying anything if being made here is important to you. Don't believe all that "buyer beware" crap, that's just somebody trying to rationalize screwing you.

P.S. Even ones that are made here, most likely all the little pieces and parts they are made from are made somewhere else but hey, at least they have a building here and they write paychecks to Americans, who then spend them at Walmart and continue the downward spiral towards eventual economic collapse and complete loss of sovereignty.
