OK, I know many of you have been following what has been going on with Jeff Iams (jeff_bass28). Short recap. Ex-Girlfriend takes their 2 year old daughter, has her around an alleged pedophile, drug users and other people who have been in prison for other crimes.

She is blackmailing him to see his daughter. Wife lost job.

Tom Bowlus and I have been trying to help this guy (moreso Tom lately). Jeff's Ex took his car, he has only a partime job, he is behind on rent and bills and his ex is using the car to blackmail him (car for visiting daughter).

We have an attorney lined up that can do it for less money but not free. We need to reaise serious funds for him right now!

He needs a beeter job too. Anyone in Central Ohio that can give this guy a break PLEASE contact me.

We raise a lot of money for Mike Fredericks when he was sick and needed it. PLEASE help me raise funds for Jeff. His situationis getting worse and worse everyday. He is eligable for ZERO assistance from the state.

Has anyone thought of charity gigs, etc?
If you guys design any kind of banner or logo, let me know and I'll put it on my site. I don't get that many hits, but enough that it may help.
I'll do what I can :hmm:. Here's to hoping!
Perhaps you guys can start a "goal meter" type thing, and show us how much more to go?

When we did this for MikeBass (Mike Fredericks) we did it silently through PM's of people who knew him. We raised over $2,000 in a few days. Once everyone found out about it we doubled that figure in a week.

Jeff is going to need more than that. All monies will be distributed directly to the parties he needs to pay. There will be lots of oversite of the funds for anyone concerned with that aspect of it.

Tom Bowlus is our attorney and I am the Founder and CEO (per se). Anyone helping can be sure that TOm and I will handle this properly!

PLEASE CONTRIBUTE! I have two little girls and hearing about what has transpired over the last couple months is heartbreaking.

I want to help out. But I'll tell you there is no such thing as "father's rights". When my ex-wife got into drugs and cheating with someone and I took care of my two daughters for over a year, the court system only got involved to enforce me paying them thousands of dollars per month for alimony and child support (I had a better salary back then). I had researched seeking sole custody, but found documented court cases where honest dads were forced to pay for rehabilitation treatment for crack-head moms so the mom could have sole custody. There is unfortunately a definite bias in the court systems that all dads are deadbeats, and kids need to be with their mothers. Fathers seeking sole custody have less than a 10% chance of obtaining custody, even when the mom is up to nasty shananigans. sigh...

I was actually a child in a case like this, and lucky for me, my dad struggled through the whole thing with a poopy job and payed every payment on time, and eventually got custody. My mom isn't a crackhead though :p

The court system really does make me sick to my stomach. I just have to ask, WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING WHEN THEY CAME UP WITH THESE LAWS!?!?!

Mike,

Forgive the intrusion, but I think your donation drive would be much better if you'd give TB'ers a sense of independent oversight, instead of simply using a personal paypal to collect. I'm not trying to cast a shadow on anyone's integrity, but just trying to help as I think you'd collect from a wider segment of the TB population this way.

Also I need to make it clear for legal reasons that while a TalkBass member is named, TalkBass has no official part in this donation drive and has no control over the proceeds.

Mike called me about his last night. Had a little trouble finishing my shift at work! I don't know what to say, I am speechless.
I do want to step in, however, and do a little editing on Mike's OP.

Not convicted. The 15-year old brother of her new boyfriend is under investigation for "allegedly" molesting my ex's 5- year old daughter. She has been ordered by Children's Services to keep both her girls (ours and the 5-year old from her 1st marriage) away from any member of his family, or risk losing her kids. She ignores this.

The blackmailing part is true. I finally have concrete, black-and-white proof of this as well. As much as I want to see my daughter, I'm afraid it may help more if I allow her to continue with this.

My daughter was living with me through the end of this last November. I was receiving Medicaid and food stamps. Now that my daughter is no longer with me, I lost the Medicaid, so I have no health insurance. I do still have the food stamps, but it's been reduced to almost nothing.
As for legal services, because of my financial situation, the local low-income legal aid service is declining to take on my custody case.
