Snowy weekend in the Hudson valley. Perfect time to try my hand at recovering a cabinet. Took a SWR WM10 that hasn't seen much use and recovered it in Tweed tolex (from www.partsexpress.com).
Stripping the original carpet covering was tough. It could survive a nuclear blast. Sanded the residue off with my trusty belt sander. I used water soluble glue and employed a heat gun to soften the tolex.
I "aged" the tweed with Zinnser Amber Shellac (did you know there are entire web sites devoted to schellac? amazing stuff. comes from bugs). I think the old-school leather handle adds a nice touch.
A cloth grill would be a nice touch...we'll see if there's more snow in the forecast.
I also replaced the stock speaker with a considerably upgraded Eminence.
It sounds really good--the better speaker helps a whole lot. Last thing to do is find a way to attenuate the piezo. Its much too harsh. I've heard wiring a resistor into the circuit helps. I've ordered a few and hopefully won't start an electrical fire.

Heck, it's so good, I wish I hadn't seen it now my stock WM10 looks totally lame by comparison.
