I think many of you know my rig, and I've been very happy with it, but many times I've had problems trying to bring those cabs to a gig, so I wanted to buy a smaller one. Somebody may say "why don't you bring just one of those?" and my reply is that it doesn't sound the same. I like that combination of 12 + 10 + HF horn, so I wanted that configuration into a single cab.
After some research, I contacted Mr. Jorg Schroeder telling him that I want to purchase a 4 Ohm 1210R from him. That cabinet perfectly handles my Kustom Groove 1200's 750 Watts at that impedance. He told me about his new Rhino line and after looking at the pictures, I settled on a cayenne-colored one, not only because it's a great color, but because it also matches my lava pearl Bongo, which is my main gigging bass.
Well, it arrived yesterday!
And also made its debut with a tropical music band last night at a wedding party.
You want to hear my impressions, right? Well, I'm still stunned. I mean, I love my Avatars to death, but this cab has something that I never heard and it's hard to describe (but I'll try). Before starting the gig, I did my usual setup routine and it was pretty easy to dial the tone I normally look for. But when we started playing, there was something different. Aside from the cab's great bass response, what impressed me the most was its extraordinary middle frequencies presence without being annoyingly honky. It's simply great. Few times I receive so many compliments from my bandmates and the sound guy (actually it's the first time I see a sound guy so enthusiastic about a bass' tone), specially because the venue in which we were playing is a very well known hall in my city because of its horrible acoustics, specially for bass. It's really hard to make a bass to sound clear and defined there, and that just effortlessly happened last night! So, if you ask me to summarize my impressions in a single sentence, I can tell you:
THIS THING MAKES MY BASS CUT SHARPER THAN A KNIFE.
