Anybody ever feel reverse GAS, a desire to minimize one's collection? I do, and have succeeded thusfar in the amp department (I have one head and one cab, nothing more). Pedals that is unlikely to happen, but with basses I think I can do it. Someday. Currently have 5 basses, and a 6th is on the way. Should be less.

One boutique, one beater. That's basically what I want to get to. I'm aiming for January 2008 to do this. The question being what to keep of course, which is the difficult part.

Note: I'm not sure if this topic has been discussed, but at the same time I also didn't search, which I'm not going to apologize in advance for.

Additional note: Don't PM me for a member number, I don't even keep track of my own so I certainly won't of yours.

Final note: Don't take this too seriously.

After having been up to 6 basses at one point, I've decided that my limit is going to be 2, possibly 3, from now on.

That is, until I decide that I want more and love the ones I have so much that I won't part with any.:smug::D

I had 10 plus an upright. I'm down to 7. I only have one bass that I consider expendable but it was cheap enough to where I think I'll keep it. But yeah, it got to be too much for me. 7 is actually too much but I have a couple that have sentimental value that I can't bear to sell. I'd like to keep it at 5.

I have 4 basses, and I want 2. A fretted Precision and a fretless. I don't feel sentimental over instruments: if I don't have a use for one, out it goes.

I recently went from 16 down to 9, and I like not having a bunch of stuff to worry over that doesn't get used.

Especially since, it appears that the sort of basses I am into (Fenders) are readily available. Currently all my basses are Fenders, and the value of any given one depends on its use.

The '51 P RI has a terrific sound, great looks (I have to admit that the "butterscotch", which I was not fond of in the beginning, looks good under stage lights) and a punchy sound, but it doesn't fit the material my band does.

The fretless Jazz has great action, good looks (blue agave w black pickguard) and a pretty good sound -- but, although it's my home practice axe, it doesn't go to gigs.

The Classic '50s Precision is exactly what I want, as far as sound, playability and feel go (even though it's that ghastly fiesta red) and it goes to every gig.

The Standard FSR isn't used a whole lot now, but when I get the fretless neck from Warmoth, it will render the Jazz surplus to requirements.

So, once the neck arrives, I'll take the opportunity to peddle the '51 and the Jazz.

Which will be fine until I need another kind of sound....

I'm at 11 and could get by with 1. Realistically, I have at least 3 or 4 that could go no problem, but every time I consider selling any I realize that it might not be worth selling for the amount I'd likely get for them. Maybe one day. It doesn't stop me from wanting more though. A good 5-string Jazz style bass and I should be all set!

I've sold two basses here in the past year and a half...one for want to be rid of, one for need of coin...I feel no holes in my collection from their absence. Fine by me.

3 basses left. I *may* add a 4th again, if I can find the right J style beastie(haven't hada J since I sold the one I built 12 years ago)... then I might lose the 8 string. Anyone want it?

I own 9 of them....and at least two have got to go.

The problem is that I really did my homework on those 9 - so each one is a fabulous instrument that I don't want to let go of....so I'm in a bit of a conundrum.

Anyway - I'm supporting the OP....I need to get rid of a few basses.

I have 7 and they're all different, but it's funny---I was just packing for a gig and I changed my mind as to what bass to bring and re-packed 3 times. Ah well, I love 'em all and need 'em for recording variety, but I do sorta fantasize about having just a lone P and calling it a day . . .
