So, I put together a couple of basses, a P bass, a rather lengthy build which I started in December of last year:

I've also put together a strat, which was frustrating and rewarding as well. Actually, it as a great clean tone. but I digress...

But this on one, I decided to make it as nice as possible.

Japanese Fender 62 RI Neck and Body:

The bridge pick up is from a Geddy Lee. I have the neck as well, but I just got a Dimarzio Model J that is due in early next week.

Next up: Black HB3 Hipshot Tuners and an Audere Preamp/Control Plate.

that would be ideal... but I hadn't thought much past just buying the audere, which may not happen until mid December at this point. Maybe finish it up by Xmas.

Would I be able to find a black jazz plate and just swap it out for the plate on the audere? Are they the same size?

Yeah, thanks. I think so too!

The body is "Gun Metal Blue".

Upon looking at Audere's website, I don't think swapping the plate out is possible without drilling the plate

- but I guess that's possible too, ain't it? anyone here done that?

I don't know if the hole spacing is the same. I believe there is a mini toggle switch and low battery light as well.

Cool, I emailed Audere and they got back to me pretty quickly with this response:

"We do not have black plate.

Moving the preamp to a new standard Fender plate is easy - spacing is standard etc.

If you leave me a note with your order then I will send you black knobs instead of chrome We do this by not installing any knobs the next time we build (since you would undo the anyway...) but put the alternative knobs in your box.

This normally will delay your order a few days depending on when we build compared to when you order..."

Well, it's getting closer to being done. I can't believe how fast it's come together!

The other day I put the Dimarzio Model J in and I got the Hipshots installed last night, and threw some Fender Tapewounds on. (one thing I've realized, I don't like those strings at all).

I have some LaBella Flatwounds en route which will go on after I get the Audere purchased and installed.
