Problem with my Schroeder 21012L, please help! (time sensitive)

Hey folks,

I have a gig on Monday, and two more on Dec 12 and Dec 14, so I need to figure this out quickly.

My Schroeder is making some funny buzzing/rattling sounds. I tried several cables, basses, etc. I thought it sounded like a bad cable at first, because it was sort of scratchy and intermittent, like a bad connection - kinda sounded like clipping also, but not really - I mean, it wasn't distorted, but scratchy. I know from the meter on my poweramp that it's not even close to clipping at the preamp/poweramp stage, so it's not that. I thought it might be a bad battery in my preamp, too, because after a second, sometimes the scratchiness "settles in" and it just plays the note, but very quietly, like a battery dying, but since it was doing it on two different basses (one of which I changed the battery in), I know it's not that, either.

I *think* it's coming equally out of all three cones, and turning off the tweeter didn't help. It's more prevalent when it's cranked, and much more prevalent on low notes, especially when I dig in.

I made a video of it, with audio, so you can kind of get an idea of what's going on... the audio isn't great, but you can hear the scratchiness:



Does anybody know what this is? Do I have to take it in for repair, or ship it off somewhere? If so, I will have to find a replacement cab for these shows... I've had my eye on a Schroeder 1210L, anyway, haha...

No; I only have one power amp. For the record, here's what I'm running:

MTD Artist 5 & MTD Z6
Line6 POD xt Live
Crown K2 (running only 1 channel; I tried both independently and it did this with both)
Schroeder 21012L

Tomorrow I will bring it in to the store where I bought it and try it with a different amp, and see what the dealer thinks about it. I might be able to borrow another Schro from him for my gig on Monday; we'll see. If the dealer doesn't have any ideas, I will try to get in touch with Jorg.

So.... how would I get in touch with him? Just email him through his website?

edit: I can't tighten the ring around the speakers because it uses a hex-key screwdriver head, which I don't have, haha. I'll bring it in to the dealer tomorrow and let him take a look at it (and try it out with a different amp, also).

I took off the grill, but I'm not sure how to get a look inside the cab (the speakers are mounted using a hex head, and I don't have an adapter for that). Something might be touching the speaker inside... I'll email Jorg about it, then.

Nothing is visibly out of place, but I will take a closer look at it tomorrow when I bring it in to the dealer.

Also, Jorg emailed me back (that was fast!) and said he will do what he can to help, and he encouraged me to try it with a different amp, as he said he's had problems with Crown amps before (and so have I, not with this specific one, though). I will update tomorrow after I try it with another amp.

I tried out the Schroeder in a store today with an Ampeg SVT 6 Pro head, also with a different bass & cable, and it was still doing it, so it's definitely the cab I'll email Jorg and see what he thinks.

In the meantime, I bought a Fender Rumble 100-watt 2x10, with a line out, to use for these four gigs (in the next 2 weeks), until I get this Schroeder figured out. It's not very powerful, but the tone is decent enough (I have a Rumble 25 already, that I use for practicing and warming up backstage).

I'll keep you posted once I hear from Jorg.

I tried out my Fender Rumble 2x10 100-watt combo with our group, and it is woefully underpowered. I am thinking about going back to the dealer and buying a Schroeder 1210L to use in the meantime. I have been GASsing for one of those, anyway, because my 21012L sounds *great,* but is overkill for some of our smaller shows. I can't really afford it right now, but I really don't want to play out on this 100-watt Fender, either (we are doing live recordings at our shows on Wednesday and Friday).
