what knife is best for cleaning bass?
I just use a heavy duty Japanese style Santoku. I remove the heads, guts and split them for grilling, scales down, meat up, no filleting.

The scales keeps the skin intact so when it's cooked it's easy to eat. Also, with the meat facing up on the grill, it's easy to season and tell when it's done. I used to fillet and deep fry all my fish but I'd rather grill it now.
What I like about salmon(in addition to the taste)is that it swims upstream(rebel), spawns(horndog-fish)& dies(top that).
I have not eaten bass, nor had it as a pet. I think I'd like it.
Try a steel head. It is like a cross between a bass and a salmon. Very good dredged in seasoned flour and pan fried.
