Just picked up a Hamer Cruise Bass....

Not a 2 Tek. I traded a 1992 Fender MIM Stratfor it. I also got the Peavey Cab with a 15" cab..ported. Don't really need that, but it was part of the deal.

The Hamer is Made in Korea...looks nice...haven't plugged it up yet, going to get some new strings to put on it today. The neck is super tiny...very jazz like...I think I am going to like it.

I have read reviews on here about them, but nothing about the Korean Hamers. Did I hose myself? :crying:

I play a USA 2TEK CruiseBass as my #1 but I have owned a Korean Hamer Eco-Tone (335 clone guitar) and a Korean Hamer 5-string CruiseBass. You certainly didn't get hosed on the deal, I'm sure you'll like the CruiseBass. I only sold the 5-string because (as I always do) I discovered that 5-strings just aren't me. It played very well and sounded great.

Thanks guys. It is a good looking bass, that is for sure. I have never played a bass with such a tiny neck...I have owned Fender Jazz basses and this neck is way smaller than those.

I know that the MIA Hamers sell anywhere from $300+ so I am hoping this MIK is in the same ballpark....?

I haven't checked e-Bay lately, but Korean CruiseBasses like yours typically sold for $250-$350 while the USA CruiseBasses, both the Gotoh and 2TEK models, sold for $500-$750 or so. It should be a good workhorse for you.

Anyone have a link to date the bass? Looks like the serial is 1705205 maybe....it has some scratches over it so I can't really tell...

Also, on the back of the head...there is a stamp that is stamped into the wood that says "US"...but then the serial number and what says Made in Korea is stamped in silver on the surface of the wood.

There is no correlation between the year of manufacture and the serial number on Hamer imports. It dates from the mid to late 90's. I bought my Korean import 5-string in the fall of 1999 and they were discontinued by then.

90s or 80s?

I didn't realize this could be from the 90s...but I won't deny that I have no idea about these basses...ahha

It dates from the 90's, CruiseBasses from the 80's had a different body shape, a set neck and PJ pickups; same name, different instrument. The 2nd generation (i.e. bolt-on) USA made CruiseBasses were introduced in the mid 90's (mine is a 96) and were discontinued before 2000.

I'm sure it'll sound good. My import 5 sounded great and it was the same as your bass with an extra string. The Hamer imports from that era were well made and used decent hardware and electronics...they were a cut above other imports.

Awesome! Now my bass quest will end for a bit...now complete with 4 string, 5 string and 6 string.

Now I just need a fretless 4 string and I can retire from getting so much gear..haha.

Pretty soon they'll be starting to wear out and you'll need to replace them. At least, that's what I tell my wife.

Funny you should mention that....I live with my g/f and she is always "Why do you have to have so much music equipment" and I asked her "Why do you need 3 digital cameras?" (she is a photographer for a travel magazine....and she said that is totally different than me having tons of music equipment. :spit:
