strings that don't have silk @ the end

Like Ox said D'Addarios no silk and great strings but if you play more rockish stuff (punk,metal,etc.) then I'd recommend Ernie Ball. Their hybrid slinkies don't have it for sure and I'm assuming their other stuff doesn't, but they die kinda fast but the tone is worth it, providing its one you like.

I always found the EB Slinkies too "loose". The guitarist in my band now plays them and my brother (a guitarist) plays them too. I gave away 10 sets of them...

Keep in mind that this is guitar experience that I am talking about but if it translates to bass: If you like a looser string, they may be fine... but the Dads have good tone and are a bit more "snug".

I have not tried EBs on bass yet. I did try Hartkes (got them free) and GHS Boomers... just call a pass on those and go to the Dads.

Me, I am sticking with D'Addario 165s.

I haven't done much pick work with them but they sound somewhat similar to the D'Addarios IMHO - not too bright but still plenty of top end.

They definately do not suffer from the issue I also have with Elixirs' coating scrubbing off.

I can see why he doesnt like it, sometimes it frays and starts sticking out and stuff


doesnt look too good and can get messy on a headstock (which is ironic because its there to prevent that)

I like silk...even though I have no idea what it is there for. Well, I have ideas, but nothing from the guy that invented silk wrappings.

To me all guitar strings are too loose they cant take much pressure without being bent to god knows where, guess its just the power of being a bassist:D But I got my knock off P strung with EB Hybrids and I use it mostly for metal since the action is so high the strings are not that lose at all IMO even at C tuning they just arent that loose so if your bass' action is fairly high I'd give em a try. Like I said before awsome rock tone with a pick.
