What should be my next bass? My budget will be $300-$550USD. I mostly play rock, Classic rock, 90's rock. I would prefer a four string.

About any bass will do what you're asking it to do. Play a bunch of 'different' brands of basses and models and go with what feels best to you and inspires you to practice and play better.

A used USA Peavey like a foundation,etc. Lots of reviews and posts on these. Well liked on this forum. I have a 79' T40 that is just a wonderful piece of gear. (except it's heavy!!!) Most of them in your budget.
Peavey Grind or Cirrus(the cheap one) or a Seinberger. Those are some basses im looking into today.
Ya i like fenders and the Geddy would be great. I plan on trying out a bunch as well but if i can get a hold of a used Geddy Lee for 500 or so i'd probally go with that.

Every bass mentioned would be a wise choice but here is my choice the Ibanez Sound Gear and get your choice of colors they have nice shades.Get one of the better ones not one of the lesser ones they usually have a split coil and J pickup or 2 Humbuckers.For your style of playing maybe the humbuckers will work out best
4 string for Classic and 90's alt rock... can't go wrong with a standard P-Bass, maybe even an Epiphone Thunderbird. An Ibanez ATK may even be worth a look.

Look in the TB classifieds, toss 20 bucks into the TB till and you'll be good to go.
I would always recommend a Fender, or a Ric......or any bass guitar that has stood the test of time.
That's the one I have - the SR400QM in cherryburst. It's beautiful! It has a narrow/thin neck (1 1/2" nut) that Ibanez SR/SRX series basses are known for - a smaller to medium size body - 34" scale - 3 band active EQ - a somewhat scooped sound in the flat positions - very bassy with crisp highs - many tones possible - comes with Elixers. If you like "fast" necks - be sure to try one.
I have a Geddy that would go for $500. I like it a lot but I'd take the $500 and use it on purchasing a USA Standard Jazz.
