Mammoth backyard spider devours bird

spiders are awesome, i dont understand why everybody is always freaked out by them.

my mother insists that i was bitten by a black widow when i was like 3 years old (she says i had the same bite mark as a friend who was bitten) but i dont think it really happened.

I once found a dead spider in my yard...
since i was sure that he was dead, i got to get a close up look at him. it turns out that if you squeez their opisthosoma (abdomen), it forces the legs to curl in, almost like pulling on a tendon or something.

Strangely I don't mind tarantulas, or anything big and slow, just the skinny-legged freaks like the one in the pic. EEeEeeEeew.

I really do have this habit of bringing up centipedes in every single spider thread ever. (It's my thing) but how do you feel about these things then?

They're the only thing that scares me more. Plus they bite like a mofo and can run fast enough to break the sound barrier..

OH MY GOD!

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!?

What, this?

another really cool/nerdy thing about spiders is that their legs are moved by some kind of hydraulic mechanism in addition to internal muscles, the muscles cause the legs to constrict (not sure if this is the right word) and they extend their legs by forcing blood through the area. if they lose too much blood they are no longer able to extend their legs. this is also the reason why their legs curl up when thy die

I see centipedes all over the place outside and in my garage.
sometimes i see them in my bathroom too.

i know that this sounds like the traits of a serial killer LOL, but centipedes are really fun to blow torch...
you give them a half second blast from a MAPP gas torch and all the legs are instantly burned off.
