Decided on an Essex Jazz over a Squier 70's VM Jazz

Ok having been GASing over the 70's VM squire jazz for some time now I've decided that my latest buy is going to be an SX jazz over a Squier.

One of Link Removed SX's

Just because i'd be modding the Squier to look this SX does. So i figured i'd possibly do some mods on the SX with the money i save and put the rest toward my PJB suitcase fund.

Sound like a good idea?

Sweet, if U R playing looks, but as far a TONE, the Squire is probably the better choice. Good luck.

I've owned and played many of each and my opinion is that the Squier is a far better instrument. Again, just my opinion and there may be others that disagree. The build quality, fret work, hardware, electronics and just general feel are a lot better on the Squier VM by a long shot IMHO....

If you get Link Removed SX from Rondo, it won't need any modifications.

And I'm one of the ones who disagree with Quadzilla. While the Squiers are nice instruments, I think the SX LTDs are equal to them in every respect.

I can't get any bass from Rondo, as they don't ship to Finland.

Then how are you going to get an SX? Are you buying used, or are you going through SX Spain. Maybe taking a trip to the UK?

No matter, my point still stands. Get an LTD version of the SX and it won't need any modifications.

Same here. Not saying the VM is a bad instrument on any level, just saying the SX is at least on a level playing field.

i too thought the squier sounded much better than the sx. i had one of those 70's style sx's and thought it sounded pretty bad. the squier neck feels a little floppy to me, but sounds a lot better.

...And regarding this quote, there was a blind "taste test" here quite a while before your join date, where JonathonD posted clips of an early 70's Fender Jazz (not a Squier), and an SX Jazz, and asked us to pick which was which. It was almsot split 50/50. Many picked the SX as the better sounding bass, actually. I don't remember what I picked, but they sounded DARN close, and in any gig situation the differences would be essentially inaudible.

IMO, the tone department is where they are most evenly matched! It's playing, bulid quality, etc where there may be more inconsistencies with the SX line.

Yeah i've read a ton of different views of both basses and the SX is the one I want to go for. I just need to find somewhee to get it from now! I've just emailed SX spain and awaiting a reply.

LTD SX's are well worth the extra 20 bucks, IMO...

If they do a LTD edition the same as the one i want then for sure i'd get it, but i dont think they do.

I have that one and I love it. This thread gives me an excuse to post pics of it.

lucky b*st*rd!!

I've spent most of tonight trauling the net with no success for places that stock this bass other than Rondo.

I would probably wait forever to try and find one second hand via the bay.
