I can't decide between the:

The woods different right? Is there a dramatic difference in sound?
I really want a maple neck and I would probably take the ashtrays off the 62 but theres a voice in my head saying the the red 75 might be a little too 80's.

What would you choose?

I'm about to make the same decision. The green is nice because it's a low impact color. But red is nice too. I wish they offered a covered bass in vintage white instead of yellow or 3TS. I may just get a natural or a JM though.

That green looks sexy in the pic, much more so than the red, but as has been previously stated it could be completely different in person. I've never really been a fan of metallic colors, but I bet that red would look awesome with a tort guard.

I have the same bass. It's closer in spec to the red one. FWIW my green SX is now my bar for measuring other basses. My Clement is the first bass in a long time that has stood up to my SX. Many people wsill laugh but I've had some good basses in the stable and when it came to it the SX sounded and played better. I have done a lot of work to it though.

The green SX in the original post is a slighty lower end model. The biggest difference is the neck. the SJB isn't as thick not as thin as most Fenders but not as thick as say a Warmoth J neck.

Sound difference will likely be negligible.

I think I've seen a bunch of posts about the ash basses being kind of heavy, mine isn't bad. It's lighter than I expected it to be after hearing that they are heavy. It weighs about the same as the Fender Jazz I had before it.

I like the Gotoh 201. The newer SX tuners are not bad. If I were you I'd keep an eye on the accessories for for some Hipshot ultralight tuners.

The pickgaurd is strictly going to be a matter of personal taste.

The pickguard will just be a matter of the look you want. A bridge upgrade is probably not necessary but if you like a different one then stock then go for it. I'd wait until you get the bass and can try it out as-is before you buy one though.

If you want new tuners you'll have to drill new holes and possibly modify the peg holes. The stock tuners are fine though. If you want a pretty good explanation of SX tuners, look here. This process was done on mine and they're as good as any other basic tuner you'll get, unless you just want a different color or style.
