Anyone own or played one of these? I'm looking for one or two good sounding beater basses to add to my stable of gigging axes along with my MTD and Fenders.

For some reason, these have piqued my interest.

I like them. I looks like MM size pickups. Probably good candidate for an upgrade. I know the new Hagstrom stuff is made in china.

I don't know about the four strings, but I would love one of the new HB 8's. I've always wanted an eight string.

Alrighty....I figured I'll be the lab rat with this bass. I just scored a really nice deal on a slightly blemished all-black 220.

I'm going to mod it into a badass metal machine.
Here's a mockup of what I'm going to do....

It WILL be done....mark my words.....it WILL be done.

Hell yeah!! I wish they made a fiver. Get a custom Link Removed and that will be one bad bass!

They're made in China and really don't appeal to the masses as stock instruments. Very few retailers carry them.

How many times did you have to bump this thread? That should have told you something.

I see you're making a lot of changes to get what you want and I appreciate that.

But just out of curiosity, how do they sound stock? Is it bad enough that you can't live with it or are you just into making a project?

Stock they sound ok for what they are...by "ok" I mean mediocre at best. If I wanted a passive tone, I'll grab a stock J bass.

I love the playability, but active humbuckers and Bart's are my sound.

It was a project, but not just something I did for the hell of it....I took a relatively cheap, decent sounding bass and turned it into a great sounding, giggable bass with all the features I need.

I am extremely happy with the results.

I'm going to record some soundclips of both the stock one (the quilted) and the black modded one so you can hear the tonal differences.
