Need some advise please:

I received an invitation to try out with a local cover band. When the day came for the audition, I got a call that the drummer was sick and we would have to postpone. The following week another audition was set up and again cancelled abruptly. Two members of the band were going on vacation and a couple of weeks later they would be in touch. Well, lesson learned, in the meantime I learn about half of their material.

Never received any communication back and after three attempts, I finally shamed someone into contacting me. OK, they already had someone lined up.

Should I send a thank you or .................what?

RO

Thank you for what, the runaround? Maybe just let them know you have learned a bunch of their material (because you were invited to audition) and if something happens w/ the person they have lined up, you're ready to go (IF you're available).

Most music communities are pretty small circles, so don't burn any bridges unless you absolutely have to. You may have future opportunities with that group or individual members. Go on, and for your next audition, you already know some new songs...

Not to beat a dead horse.... Yes, most musical communities are small - in both directions. They know they jerked you around. Do you think they'll ever call you again? When was the last time you heard from "that guy" who owes you fifty bucks! I'm not suggesting you be an azzhat, but I would let them know they wasted my time. I would much rather get a quick email saying "someone else popped up and the position is filled. Thanks anyway". Instead, they jerked you around for a month or so. I'm thinking their mommas didn't teach them any manners.

Thanks, I sent this:

Thank you for the opportunity. I am disappointed that I did not get to try out but at least I learned some new material. If you need someone in the future let me know and if you hear of other opportunities, please pass my name and contact info along.

Hope your project is very successful.

Best Wishes,
