After watching a few bands over the weekend, I noticed that a lot of the bass players got up on stage with active 5 string basses, a few had pedal boards and almost everyone took a little bit too long adjusting the EQ on the house bass rig, a hartke aluminum 4x10 with the extra speaker in the middle, I forget the model.
But then came this bass player with a lone P bass, no pedal board, and just adjusted the eq in a "frown face" and played his behind off!
He destroyed the other bass players with cool bass lines and smooth bass runs using his fingers. His tone was mid heavy, but the mids were fat, with a lot of bottom, not thin sounding.
Man, this man made me a P bass convert! Obviously, if you put any bass in this man's hands he would have no doubtedly killed it anyway but he CHOSE a Precision!
It's something special about the purity and straight foward simplicity of a Precision. It's just so "shut up and play"
