Best headphones for bass practice

I recently got a pair of these; great bottom end but I do find the lower mids to be a bit too strong compared to the rest of the frequency band, something to get used to.

Interesting. That's the band I often boost to add punch and clarity to the sound in a live mix. Guess it could be a detriment in silent practice....

Seems to be a trend in some gear. I've got a Creative Labs Soundblaster in my laptop, which has settings for speakers and headphones. It touts some sort of amazing sound technology, but I wonder if it's simply boosting the lower mids to improve sonic presence. One more issue to keep track of in choosing gear....

My previous headphones were AKG K401s which, to me, were very neutral sounding but a bit bass shy. I can live with the bass shyness, but the rest of the frequency range should be balanced.

+1 for the Sony MDR-7506 headphones. Last I recall they were around $100.

I found them very helpful in hearing every little detail with the bass lines played on a CD.

big -1

They sound great, very comfortable. But the cups on mine just disintegrated and I can't find replacements. I'm not going to buy another set that's going to fall apart in a year.
