Sorry for the dumb question, but I have been looking into Double Basses and would really like to learn. I would LOVE to play with a bow. Problem is, I play in a progressive-esque band. So I probably couldn't hear myself if playing with an acoustic correct? I want to learn not only because It is a beautiful instrument, but also to broaden my horizons and knowledge about music. Any tips, advice?

Double Bass Bowing with an EUB?

Which instrument? You're asking in the EUB forum, but some of your questions seem to be about double bass. They're not the same thing.
Im torn, but I am leaning more towards the Electric Upright, but is it possible to use a bow with it? Again sorry for the noobness, since it was a mix of both I wasn't sure where to post it. But I am torn due to the fact both are awesome. Is the EUB cheaper than the acoustic? Im only 15 so finaces are limited.
Yes, absolutely you can bow EUB's.
If the fingerboard is curved and you have suitable strings, youre good to go.
I use an NS cr5 with a bow all the time.
Its tricky to get a nice tone down low, but when you bow it high on the FB the tone is amazing and the sound cuts through. Add some reverb and youll be the envy of your peers. Well, depending on how crusty they are

Wow! Thanks so much for the advice, I am seriously considering purchasing one. If I find a good deal for a six string, should I go for it? I have been playing bass for about 2years. So I have a basic feel for the intrument. I know it will take incredible effort to get good at the upright, but I am willing to do it.
Absolutely. Unless it's a bass guitar on a stick (like a Dean Pace or a Barker), with a flat fingerboard.

Cheapness... EUB vs. DB.... that's about ten threads all by itself. Cheap now is often expensive later.
In the realm of affordable EUBs, people seem to like those Ergo basses.
I do not think that six strings are anywhere near necessary for just about anyone playing EUB. Mine have all been fours and fives, and my double bass is a four. DB strings are expensive!
One other thing... if you haven't done it yet, you should get your hands on an upright bass, either a real one or an EUB. Sometimes they seems like a good idea until you start dealing with 41 inches of scale length. It's why you see a lot of cheap used DBs for sale, I think. Not trying to dissuade you, but maybe borrow or rent something for a minute first.
As a guy who spends much of his time playing acoustic double basses for a living, I'm not ashamed to admit... bowing my EUB through the house sound, through a couple of subwoofers, is a definite rush.
Furthermore, bowing on a six strings EUB is probably pretty tricky, and even more if you don't have any arco technique to begin.

Only guy I can think of that Ive seen do it is rob wasserman. He has (had?) a sweet sounding electric double bass. Theres a clip on youtube from the early 90's or so.
And yeh, I find 5 strings is a good number for me
