It's hard to imagine a better looking pickguard on that bass than the one that's on it.

Yeah, that may very well be. But I'd love to see how a brown sunburst might fare, but I don't have one.
They also have shops that sell their instruments on Reverb. I recently bought one of their new (advertised as "used - mint") Tribute JBs from Morrell Music in Bristol, TN. (No affiliation.)
I agree that the straight black one is the best of those three, but the white pearloid still wins, at least to my eyes. It's your bass though, do as you will and God bless. I have an L2K in tobacco sunburst, with no PG obviously. Yours would look cool like that, but I know that's not an option. Darned routes in the body!

I've never heard of being able to increase the resistance of a pot. This issue is why I stopped using Bourns pots. They're a decent quality Asian pot, but many of them have almost no resistance when turning. If you need a new bass pot, here is a link to that often-hard-to-find 1Meg reverse audio taper pot. G&L NOS Mighty Mite Reverse Taper 1 Meg Potentiometer
New Old Stock Bourns made Mighty Mite potentiometers with a reverse audio taper and 1 Megaohm resistance value. Used most famously by G&L for their P.T.B. (Passive Bass & Treble) circuit. Split-shaft and coarse splined. Comes with nut and washers.
It's the same value pot. You already have the capacitors. Just unsolder the ones on the pot you have and solder everything onto the new pot in the same way. Take lots of pictures as you go so you'll have references when installing the new pot. If you're not confident in doing this, take it to a qualified luthier and have it done.

I'm wary of pulling too hard. I found out on one bass that because the knob wasn't quite the right size for the aftermarket preamp it had been glued on and it pulled the shaft right out of the pot. I've yet to resurrect that Glockenlang preamp. I might have another go at some point but trying to replace the pot on the little circuit board failed and goodness knows if it will work again. Quite sad, really.
To be honest there are no electronics in an L-2000 that aren't replaceable, so don't be too afraid of breaking something. Preamps, pots, and capacitors are all available online, not only Mighty Mite's New-Old-Stock ones but also better spec stuff sold by third parties, including myself. Big thing when pulling off friction fit pots is to apply even pressure when lifting.
