I'm really desperate to get back into the world of tube rigs, but I am also poor. Things like SVT's, 400+'s, ect, are not really on the table for me. But as I'm looking for something that sounds Nasty with a capitol "N" that shouldn't be a big problem.

Show us your vintage tube rigs by Kustom, Plush, Earth, Peavey, Univox, Music Man, whatever. Tell us if they are awesome or if they make you sad. Regale us with tales of their invincibility and back breaking heft.

And remember no pic, no rig

It has all 19 Steven Sank mods, best bass di box/mic pre there is I think.
They are a bit sought after these days though, so not that cheap if in good order, see below:

Sitting in the back there is my Silvertone 1483. My practice amp. Nice and light and the head tucks neatly into a space behind the cab.

Its a mighty Simms Watts AP 200 super there is a review of it here if you scroll down a bit.

The really interesting thing about it is it has the most enormous partridge ultra linear output transformer.
And therefore produces more clean power than amps with only 3 wires
on the primary, kind of like a fender bassman 135 as opposed to the bassman 100.
My amp has 671 volts on the plates stock being a super, I know they can be made to produce legendary high figures for RMS watts if you run the 220 volt taps on the mains transformer on a 240 volt supply.
But tube life suffers, they look after their output tubes very nicely if you don't do that. They seem to be noticeably louder cleaner with an Eden 8 x 10 than my mates SVT CL 8 X 10 rig on a straight AB test.
But that might be a little unfair as the old Eden cab is it seems more efficient than the new Ampeg cab. But the Simms only has 8 or 16 ohm outputs so I cant run it with the 4 ohm ampeg 8 X 10 for a proper
A/B Test.
The other amp is a Roost not a Hiwatt, though made in the same town.
Roost was a sort of Boutique Hiwatt made by disgruntled ex Sound City employees.
My one is quite hot rodded and can be running either 6 EL34's
or 4 KT 88's with a quick twiddle of the bias pots.
It has both halves of a 12AX7 more gain than a Hiwatt DR201, so it can get dirty like a Marshall Super Lead if you crank the gain.

i love roost amps, although i gutted my slave and rebuilt it inside, they are definatly quality amps and i'd love to get my hands on more of them ;o

Yes I am insanely jealous of my mate Dave's Roost 200 slave amp.
His has the biggest partridge output transformer made for a straight 3 wire AB1 X 4 X KT88 impedance.
Lets see a pic of yours, is it Southend or Leeds Era?.
What's the transformer set?.
I always wanted a pair of the Roost (Klipsch La Scala knock off) folded horn cabs. They looked so Black and Evil with the added cross bracing.

'66 Bassman. I have a 2X12 cabinet that's a couple years newer but I don't have any pics handy. I'm actually on an 'old' amp kick right now (more for sound than any 'vintage' vibe). I wish I still had my Road 440 head. I never knew what I had in that one (really nice SS 70's amp). I sold this a little while back:

I don't know why but I've never warmed to SVTs, even though I've owned three of them over the years. Yet I have an SVPII preamp that I love...
