Signal Chain Order

As kind of a beginner when it comes to effects, I'm suggesting this as a sticky.

1). How much does the order of your pedals matter?

2). What effects don't go well together?

3). Will changing the order of two pedals make them sound different?

Discuss.

Wow, that offers a great point of reference. Just started creating a pedal board myself. The only question I've got to offer here is....Where's the tuner go?

This may sound dumb, but just so everyone in the future can clarify: By "first" does Herrera mean first from the bass, or first from the amp?

i always direct people here...it is a lot more clear and straight-forward than Jonathan's

while it is true some effects will work better before or after other effects....i find it all to be subjective and in the ear of the person playing...

some guys like filter after dirt....i like mine before...

Andreas Moller's website is a great resource about powering the effects and providing suggestions for tuner placement. I use a true bypass tuner starting from the bass - most buffered bypass tuners in this position will affect tone. If your amp has a tuner out, use this intead of adding the tuner to the effects chain.

MammaryVest - Amplitude Modifers would start first from the bass. The effects forum rules sticky also has links to pedal order.
