Just for clarification, the boost is added gain to the signal that feeds the gain amp, so the input gain is the boost stage plus the gain stage which is the signal that the input tube emulation circuitry works on. Operationally, it's like added gain via the gain control but electrically it's done a little differently for noise floor lowering purposes as well as translating this increase to the pre DI output so that the DI out tracks the boost no matter if pre or post. This makes it much more usable in the pre position.
