Subway+ Bass DI-Preamp II

Like the D-800+, as the gain increases (including any gain added by the boost) there is some tube preamp emulation going on. This is what I referred to earlier as a little bit of flavor. Not much, just enough.

It's a delicate balance but I think you spot on nailed it. The boost adds a nice feel under the fingers and presence in the mix.

Preamp pedal knob problem solved. The knobs on the new pedal move very freely and can easily change with just a random cable dragging across them. Someone suggested “O” rings so I did that and it works great.

Now what to do with the other 189 “O” rings I have left. 😂

@agedhorse are the Q's the same for the low and hi mid controls? Wondering since I like to boost in the 1k5 to 1k8 range which either can do, if there is any difference.

I am still “cheaping out” on this. As I didn't have the scrilla to get a D800+. So I am going with this pedal instead to capture and pump some of that D800+ vibe through my WD800 🤔

The D800+ to me is the Swiss Army knife of Mesa Subway heads. I’m still amazed how close the MkII is to it in versatility, and it’s this tiny thing! Bonus - Andy snuck in a little 400+ if you’re willing to experiment. You’ll love it I bet.

I’d call the D800+ it’s “native tone” as the controls are very similar and the response is as well. As others have noted though, it does seem to have some of the added heft of the B800D built into its output, and the boost control is rumored to add some additional wizardry that I haven’t yet really explored (Gus and some others have above).
