The title says it all, I, in preperation for a jazz, blues, etc, gig just wanted flats that would not fray.

Cheap flats w/o silk..

Strings with silk wont fray unless you take them on and off a couple of times, or boil/clean them. So I wouldnt let a little thing like the silk put you off the tone you are after if you find a set with silk.
