Over-Priced basses?

I was just thinking that with all of the threads talking about "whats the best bass for the money?" and such, what the people here on talkbass thought would be a good example of not bass for the money? This could be a bass that is just way to expensive and isn't very good at all, or one that you might consider buying if it were priced just a bit lower. Or anything else really

On my lists are any MIM fenders after that price increase a while back... :ninja:

oh and some signature models too

Warwicks. For what a neckthru Thumb costs new, I could get two Spector Euros and be 10 times happier with what I got!

I'll second the MIM Fenders. Just because it's cheaper than a MIA doesn't make it affordable for budget-minded players and beginners. Which is what that line is SUPPOSED to be!

I read all the time on TB about American Fenders being too much. Frankly, I disagree with most of those posts. I've got an '08' MIA Fender Jazz V that I paid $1,249 for in '08' and I feel I got a great deal on it. It's a bass that's going to eventually exceed in worth what I paid for it and I will have a quality bass that will last me a lifetime.

Then there are some of the Fender Custom Shop basses that are quite expensive, I don't agree with the pricing on some of those, but if there's a demand then so be it. I'm happy with each one of my American built basses and I've got several.:smug:

I think MIM are a tad overpriced now as well BUT I don't think they are supposed to be the entry level line. They are the mid-priced line and Squiers are the budget instruments.

I will get some argument here but I think Skylines are priced too high. Every other manufacturer getting lower priced basses from Cort are priced hundreds lower. An Indonesian bass (plek'd or not) that is the same price as a US Fender, Music Man or G&L is just too much.

I like Rickenbackers. My first decent bass was a Ric I bought brand new in 1969 for about $700. That was a lot for back then but I loved it and it payed for itself many times over. Then I bought a new P Bass in '73 for $400 which I liked even better. I couldn't see paying what they want for a Ric today. It's a nice bass alright, but not at that price.
