I need another extreme.....

I'm in the market to buy another bass. I currently play with a Pedulla Thunderbolt I purchased new in 2000. It has original Barts and plays like a dream. I also play a Fender MIA Jazz I purchased new in 2003. I've changed the pups to Model J's... it also plays and sounds amzing... fat tone!

I feel like I have two basses that are very much different extreme's yet both are amazing and both cut through any mix with ease. I'm in the market for another bass and Ive been considering a EB MM or Lakland, or another? I have a budget of only 1500.00 but I want the best bang for the buck and I know its out there but I dont want to spend the next 3 months trying every bass I see...

Can you guys help me narrow down the options so I can focus on 3 or 4 models to make my decision....

Thanks in advance.

I think you should try a Stingray.

My wife and I went to GC about 5 minutes prior to closing I was in search of a truss tool for my pedulla (Ive lost the original) and I was checking out the eb stingray's but I didnt have a chance to play one. Those are some sweet looking basses and I know many people have them and enjoy playing them. Not to get off topic but I always thought their tone was like a jazz and P but the best of both worlds... Is this a fair assumption?

Sorry for the delay, got a couple lengthy phone calls right in a row! :hmm:

All right dude, here's some clips for you! I have a EBMM Stingray 5 with ash body and maple neck/fretboard. It's an HH with a 5-position coil selector switch. I went with the HH for the added versatility... Stingray sound with an additional pickup. The back pickup is in same location as the single H Stingrays and is "more of a traditional Stingray sound." My personal favorite is with the switch in the middle, which is all 4 coils on. Trebley and ballsy with a slight scoop in the mids, IMO. Sounds FANTASTIC through my live rig (Shuttle 6.0 into Avatar 2x10 and 2x12) with the volume up! :D :bassist:

Hope it helps your decision making!

Only you can decide what fills a gap in your bass sound inventory, but to narrow it down I definitely agree with both the Stingray and Rick being two basses with "different" (though also quite different from each other) and totally unique sounds.

I'm not a big fan of Gibson basses (though I own SG and LP guitars).

What we can't answer is other directions you could choose to go: 7 string (not doubled), 10 string (doubled), fretless (any variety), etc. There is a whole world of bass out there to explore. Only you can say what interests you. I LOVE a Lakland, but I'm not sure how "different" it'd be. If it were me I might end up trading in the Fender Jazz on it!

And Oh yeah, DeanT reminded me. Put a Bongo on the short list!
