Always getting great ideas from TB and not one to shy away from a challenge I decided to upgrade my new Euro 5'er from the TP/TW/push-pull to a Hazlab 18 volt pre purchased from Spector. I also had a pair of new EMG-DC40's on hand to replace the TW's that came with the bass. Their tech had some reservations about how this system would fit in the cavity. I did to. After receiving the proper wire connectors from Jimmy I was able to begin.
Un-soldering only the leads from the original volume pots and 3 wires from the jack the removal was easy. A 5/16 drill bit widened the rout holes from the pup cavity to the control well. Same bit was used to widen the stacked pot hole. The board dropped right in. I used a dummy pot in the hole that was the bass tone pot. Quick connects make the job simple, foam pads around the batteries, secure the pot nuts, close it up, plug it in, play.
A remarkable difference in sound from the TP. Very hi-fi and a more defined very usable tone. The Hazlab board even has a port for a midrange pot should I decide to install one. This mid pot would go in the dummy hole. (no wise cracks).....
This is a very good upgrade for your Spector should you decide to do it and not as difficult as one might think.
Why do this? I didnt care for the TW's. Either in single or dual coil mode and the sound I wanted to hear just wasn't there. I found them a little too thick with little to no ability to add flavor to the tone. Output was big but not much else going for it.
