it's epidemic these days......i would consider taking the band name off the side of vans and trailers.....kesler farms decals would attract less attention.....if you need the logo it can be one of those magnetic deals that can be removed.....i'm convinced that there are roving bands of thieves out every night looking for a score,and a band logo tells me that there is expensive,easy to convert to cash gear on board.....our cube van at work got hit and emptied of about 13k worth of construction gear.....anyplace seems to be a target these

it has been said that thieves will even follow bands from gigs,so a really heavy duty chain from the hitch to the van frame,with the lock in an awkward place to cut or burn might help deter....and a circle around the block

MIJ-VI, no, this is not my gear though I would love to have a gig with DNC.

Jim, my truck and trailer have no markings on them. I had considered some magnetic signs for the trailer but may reconsider.

The pictures I saw of this trailer had Quicksilver Racing on the side. The thieves were probably expecting race cars, bikes, tires, parts, etc. They were probably surprised when they opened it up and found a bunch of amps and drums.

Anyway, there is contact information in the article if anyone has any information. Figured it might be worth keeping in mind if a fellow TBer comes across a 69 SVT in a pawn shop, eBay, or CL in the Atlanta area.

i don't know if the timing works out,but an la based band just experienced the same thing....if it was a pro job getting out of state to sell the gear makes sense,and ripping of another in that state to be moved in a different place would be expected.....i wonder if the two were related.....if it was i'd bet they saw you play and followed the trailer,and your missing gear is being sold in la

i recall a cube van got stopped on the highway near here with harleys and parts that had been stolen across the country.........

i see that atlanta police have turned up something,so hopefully the op gets his prized gear back and that the thieves get some serious time

apparently there was no decal on the trailer.....it's a burr in my saddle that honest folks have to alter their behavior to deter thieves.....and it has almost become mandatory these days.......i believe the bad guys should be altering theirs instead,ie pacing up and down in a cell......why shouldn't a band,or any one else be able to advertise their stuff.....far too much emphasis is placed on altering the habits of honest folks.....

The ugly truth is that many of those 'great deals' found on the Internet--aren't... :rollno:

So please, if you're ripped off submit a detailed description of your loss to Chris' project and check the map before you buy!

All bands should understand (as Jim has pointed out earlier) that they are indeed targets for organized gangs of thieves who can go to a band's web site, find out where & when they'll be gigging, what gear they'll likely have with them, and how they'll be moving it.

These indolent scoundrels exploit the fact that many musicians tend to have a relaxed attitude towards structure and are often distracted after :bassist: a good show.

IMO bands would do well to have an if-we-wanted-to-rip-off-a-band-like-ourselves-how-would-we-do-it discussion and develop a security plan.

Recording the make, model & serial numbers for all of your gear, photographing each piece, and them assembling everything into a printable high resolution .pdf which could be e-mailed to law enforcement & newspapers, and used to print up hand bills, may be worth considering.

Social networking with other bands on this shared and increasing problem may be worthwhile as well.
