Identify this bass (Vintage Japan content)

Has anybody ever seen one of these before? It's some sort of vintage 4 string bass from Japan. It's 34" scale and the only markings on it are on the back of the neck. It says BASIN and has what looks like maybe a model number and serial number. The little plate that's blurred out says "Made in Japan" on it.

That looks exactly like it. Thank you! The only difference is that one has a 2nd knob and mine has some sort of 1/8" jack on it. Haven't pulled it apart to see what that is all about yet. That is definitely what it is though. The neck inlays and all that are the same.

I will be. It was actually sort of "together" when I got it. It only had 1 string on it, but it's interesting. It will be getting a new fretboard though. Someone ripped half the binding off and it was missing chunks of the fingerboard that came off with it...and it was defretted quite poorly. It also doesn't have a truss rod. I had my luthier pull it apart and he found 2 steel rods that are used to stiffen it. Probably going to get a new board put on (with frets) and probably strip it down and refinish it. It won't be "original" but it wasn't anyways with the frets ripped out and poorly filled. Considering I picked it up on craigs for almost nothing, it will be a nice side project/distraction to restore and customize a little bit.

Well this project is now complete and I'm very happy with the results! This thing is so damn ugly I don't think I can ever part with it

The neck was pretty much toast. At least the fretboard was. That was obviously the most costly part was getting a new fretboard made. Aside from that it wasn't too bad....just time consuming but that's the fun of it.

I just need to get some chrome knobs for the pots. The only ones I had in stock to fit those were black. It actually sounds pretty good. I don't care much for how microphonic the pickup is sometimes but that's how it is. I'm tempted to try flats on it but with a non adjustable neck and non adjustable bridge, getting the playability is a bunch of fiddling with neck shims. It actually plays pretty good right now. The action is just a touch higher than I like it but I expected a lot worse.
