New Bass Day! Brice Defiant 6

Everyone's heard of Rondomusic.com right?
Well, I recently decided to order a 6 string from them: the Defiant 6 in Lizard Burst!

The Shipping Box:

Upon opening the box, I see the hard shell case I ordered with it.

It seems to be a pretty good case actually. Its really sturdy and built quite well.

Here it is compared to my Epi T-Bird:

Never realized that the T-Bird's headstock was so... oar-like

Lookin' down the strings:

It's made by Agile Guitars

It's an amazing instrument, but I did find ONE minor flaw. Theres a spot that isn't green on the bass:

Its right next to the screw. Its not a chip, but merely a spot that wasn't dyed green.

Overall, I'm very pleased by this bass. It plays well and sounds really good.
And something cool: Link Removed
So that's the page on the website for my bass. Immediately after I ordered it, Kurt took it off the website.
Also take note of the figuring on the front of the body... Now look at mine... I believe I got the guitar that was pictured.
And the last nail in the coffin: the pictured bass has the same blemish as mine!

5string: They're pretty good for the cases being only $50. They're built pretty sturdy and it feels like it'll last a while

Hutz: Thanks! It was $500 (520 with shipping)

Rawk: Thanks! I agree, if it had active pickups and controls it'd be better (Yeah, its all passive!) I'll try to get a sound clip or something up when I can

Obviously that spot is where the bass's mother held the bass when she dipped it in the River Styx!

Just be careful not to bang that spot hard or the bass may die!

That is one killer six string bass!

I love my hard cases from Rondo too. My only gripe is that the corners tend to get chewed up after a while. Lowes used to have these brass corner hardware things that were dirt cheap and you just screwed them on the corners of the case to protect them. Well, the last cases I got I went to Lowes to get some more and got a song and dance about how they changed suppliers and don't stock them anymore. Feh. I tried Home Depot, but clearly they use the same hardware supplier as Lowes!

Great looking bass AND it's passive. Beautiful color too. Thank you so much for the pictures! I was going to order this same case and the posts provided have helped me with the choice. Solid price for an in home case.

Have fun with that baby and hope to read and hear more about it.:bassist:

@Bronzehydra - Congratulations! Very cool. This is the model/finish I like... Lizard Burst. You have a 6-string now. If you haven't already, check in with the Extended Range Bass Club & get a number. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=520281&page=49

@darkstorm - Speaking of Rondo/Agile, has anyone noticed the 8 and 9 string Agile guitars in Rondo's latest emails? It made me wonder if we'll see SX/Douglas/Brice 7+ string basses anytime soon.

TolerancEJ: Thanks! I posted on that club, so I hopefully I'll get a number haha. I noticed that you mentioned the 8/9 string guitars. My two guitarists are planning on buying Agile 8 strings, and I'll buy a Low F# for my 6'er. We're gonna be reppin' Rondo music....
But I kind of think they shouldn't even be considered guitars...they're pretty much just short scale basses

FunkMetalBass: I'll try to get some sound clips up once I figure out how to record my stuff well. There's surprisingly little neck dive for this bass. It tugs a little bit on your shoulder, but it doesn't actually dive with a wide strap

Philbiker: Thanks! I agree, their stuff tends to be really good

Im really considering this bass. Im just wondering how the pickups sound, and how much variety is available with the stock controls. I like the fact it has a coil split, but im thinking i would want to upgrade the electronics. Since the pickups have a unique routing, replacing them isnt really an option (without routing).

Soooo how does it sound? :D

I think it sounds really good! The Pickups are pretty bright, but at the same time can deliver mind shattering low end. So far I haven't really messed around with the controls a lot, but I can get quite a few different tones out of it. The Coil tap makes a fairly noticeable difference (It sounds more round and quiet when its single coil), the pick up selector makes a pretty good difference, too (as usual). The Tone knob "feels" different than the tone knob on my T-Bird. It seems like I have to turn it farther to get the tone to change. I'm not sure how to describe it using fancy musical terms haha

I have yet to find a way to record my playing. I'm not completely certain how to/if I can plug my amp into my computer, I dont have a good video camera, and I have a rockband microphone as the only way to record anything from my computer... surprisingly, the sound quality is not very good haha
