S.D. Curlee value?

I came across this one Invalid Link Removed on gbase and that's a hondo version. They are asking right at $600 for it so that was kinda throwing my sense of value off...

I think it has a great tone, I just didn't want to sink cash into fixing it up if it was only worth a few hundred...

I have this same model. I bought it brand new in '77 for $350. It was the first thing I ever financed. I was 18.
I don't think they have increased too much in value over the years like one may expect.
Last time I checked (several years ago) they were going for around $400.
My ser # stamped on the bridge is 645. Whats yours?

Looks like your bass has been modded as the stock pickups were P style I believe. that may push value somewhat downward.

I had the import version of this bass as well as the Hondo II version. They were all great.

This is what I found. As I recall, many of these basses have an issue with the necks warping.

Mine developed a slight twist over the decades.
I attributed it to moving around to different weather conditions over the years. So Cal to Pacific Northwest, Colorado, Az, Nor Cal. The variations in the climates wreaked havoc on the neck. It's still playable. Intonation is near impossible to get right tho...

No.. I got mine from the Whittier Music Center
I used to shop there - they had the best prices in the early '80's. The guy that went on to start the Bass Center worked there, and he managed to get in an amazing selection of exotic basses for that time period - brands like Wal which you definitely couldn't find anywhere else. I don't imagine they sold many, but it was in Whittier after all.

Some had split P type p'ups. This one and mine came stock with that big brass DiMarzio. This bass really has that "piano" type sound you hear about sometimes.
