Joe Veillette and Harvey Citron made these basses between 1976 and 1983 primarily in Upstate, NY. The craftsmanship of of the instruments is truely amazing. I believe all parts aside from the tuners were made in-shop, including features such as hand wound pickups, brass nut, a two-piece brass bridge, vintage frets, strap pins, etc. VC was one of the first, if not THE first to build neck-thru basses. I’ve been told that the serial number is embedded between layers of wood within each instrument for confirmation via Xray. Premium woods were used and the finishes are beautiful. Because of a custom build order that I recently placed, I am offering up for sale Veillette Citron serial #192, made in 1980. Controls are V/V/T/T with three of the four dials being push/pull for different phase combinations. There is also a three way pickup selector switch. This model features a removable part of the fretboard to access the truss.
The bass has some finish checking, but overall is in good cosmetic shape. The pickups are good and the knobs all work, but are very scratchy (when turning them) and would benefit from some internal cleaning. The bass is just over 8 lbs.
