My folly is your reward! Up for sale is my 2001 4001c64. If you don't know these basses, checkout out the many fine talkbass threads on them.
Meant to simulate Paul McCartney's Ric after he stripped it and sanded down the horns, this bass feels super light compared to other 4001s, has a unique reverse headstock, and to my knowledge the thinnest neck profile of any bass in the 4000 line.
This one is in great cosmetic condition, though with a few very minor dings or imperfections pictured below.
Sadly, after a couple years of trying, I just can't seem to take to it. It's beautiful to look at, cool, as hell, but it's always my 2nd or 3rd option when I feel like playing or practicing. To be frank, I'm very much in love with a MIJ jag I modded, so this Rickenbacker sits in it's case in a closet most days.
Now.. for the sweeteners... I kept trying different things to tweak this bass in the hopes that it would click with me. All of which the new owner will hopefully appreciate:
1. There was some very minor tail lift. Had no functional impact, and at 20 years old, presumably stable. Nevertheless, I had the superior 4003v2 bridge installed. Original bridge is in a box and will be included in the sale.
2. I contacted aceofbass and bought one of his custom wiring jobs (Mono to Stereo push/pull pots; cap bypass push/pull pot; 500k Tone pots; 250k volume pots). His wiring is immaculate and I personally use the cap bypass all the time. The original harness remains fully intact, and can be easily wired back in.
3. At one point I though maybe the c64 bridge pickup output up was a little lower than I might want, so I bought a new Hi-Gain bridge pickup from Rickenbacker. Both original horseshoe bridge pickup and the new Hi Gain is included in the sale.
4. Added an original trebel bezel from tubeampology
5. I kept trying different strings, so it will come with at least 2 sets of rotosounds, including the tapewounds 88s, which are pretty cool imo.
And that's it. I'll upload more photos when I have some time. Ideally, I want to sell everything together to one lucky individual, but I'm willing to sell items separately if I can't get a good price for the whole package. I'm willing to work with the buyer on packing and shipping and can potentially split costs.
