Fretting strings with fingertips or pads?

Just to echo what some have said...congrats on your desire to improve and accelerate your playing. To many of us are ok with just being "good enough". Now while I don't think playing on your tips is something that is required all the time for all styles, it is a skill/style that offers a lot of...

More than one trussrod... How does that work?

Well I have dual rods in my Dean Edge 6 string and through a little searching a while back I found that to get the lowest action possible you need a little bit more relief on the bass(or Low B) side of the neck. The dual rods make dialing this in a little easier. Multiple rod basses shouldn't be...

    Subtle or over the top?

Well the only effect I use regularly is a sub-octave/envelope filter for a few of the solos I do, or in my improv group when I wanna cut through the mix, and to be effective it is usually pretty in your face/over the top. The one important thing to me has always been that the low end is always...

where did your band name come from?

My main band is Jam Theory, I came up with this while talking to someone about the idea behind it(just jamming, no pre-writing of songs, just pure improv). He said "oh so I bet you guys rely allot on theory" I said "well I don't have any knowledge of theory so I all I have is a jam theory to...

    Whats Wrong...

LOL got typing a little too quick. never was much good at it. That F would be at the 6th fret. :hiding: nice observation 62Jazz

    Whats Wrong...

IMO, The thing about more strings is it just adds a level of flexibility if you use all the strings. For instance you can be playing in the middle of the neck and hit an F on the B string at the 5th fret instead of dropping back to the 1st on the E. But Do you need it?? of course not, it's all a...

    Is well rehearsed improvisation

I agree, I wasn't really voicing that as MY opinion, just sort of playing devils advocate:ninja: I definitely think that one can have a vast theoretical knowledge and apply it while improvising(and it still be improvisation). And honestly it would probably help if I learned some:hiding:

    Is well rehearsed improvisation

My main group is Jam Theory, we play 100% improvised music meaning we don't "pre-compose" anything (no chord progressions, no song structures, nothing). sometimes we'll pick a key to start with or someone will say something like "how about something funky" and we'll just dive in. We do...

What tuning should I use to play with C Tuned Guitars?

The Metal guys I've been jamming with play in standard D tuning, I play a 5 string(BEADG) and found that to be the best. I tried tuning down with my fretless 4 and ended up just getting a fretless 6 to keep BEADGC. If you just need the lower notes they're there and you can even go lower with the B.

Planning to make my jaguar half fretless. am i crazy?

Yeah it's definitely been done before. I remember seeing a steinberger on ebay awhile back that was only fretted to the 5th fret, if I remember right according to the listing supposedly it was a prototype for John Taylor from duran duran. Antother way I've seen this done is to only fret half of...

Where did you start? When and on What?

I started when I was 13 in '97. I was playing guitar at the time and my brothers had a band in which the bassist didn't want to play bass anymore? ? ? So after alot of convincing they got me to try it out. I instantly fell in love with the dark. . . I mean Low side. The old bass player sold me...

    Yet another atrocious ebay find...

Not too echo everyone that already stated this. . . but that really is horrible. The "wear and tear" on this is so off and out of place it's not even funny. I'm trying to imagine someone resting there right arm on the upper horn while playing for the 30 years it would take to wear off that much...

    how to find a band?

+1 on everything thats been said here Craigslist is always full of bands looking for bassists(at least over here). Jam sessions are a great place to start as well because you get to play with the musicians before even considering joining a band they're in. And definitely put up a card at your...

Basses(4 including a DB)=$3405 Amp and cab=$800 Effects and Recording equipment=$640 Cables/Straps/Cases/stands=$360 Grand Total=$5205 That's not too bad considering the guys in the 10,000+ club. And I'm not bashing, I wish I had the money to sink that kind of dough into gear(dang low paying...
